IMAGE OF THE MONTH (APRIL 2002)

ENCHANTMENT
(Poem by Wendy Howe)
see also the french version

Wind breathes
through the deep musk
of roses

and she turns her head
with pale hair and skin
poised like moonlight
on the water.

Boats tilt their shadows
against the stone pier,

and she lifts her necklace
as if to catch
their dark rhythm
in a fine net of beads.

Like the fishing vessel
her thoughts sway
in tune with night,

and love dreaming
of a man,

his hands still felt
pinning flowers
on a dress of blue chiffon.
