PERFUME
(Poem by Wendy Howe)
see also the french version

In a breath
of shimmering air,

she fans
the attic room.

Night shadows its walls
with moss-green darkness
and he awakens

wanting to unbraid her hair
and kiss those small fingertips
sliding through
its rope of silk.

Sleep turns aloof
like the distant shine
of pier lamps on water

and his eyes climb
a breeze
whispering jasmine.

Her legs are peeled smooth
by a silver stroke of moonlight.
