IMAGE OF THE MONTH (MAY 2003)

SECLUSION

(Poem by Wendy Howe )
see also the french version

You held me, wrapped my arms
in the sea’s lingerie
as whispers fell along my hair

telling how the water spun
clouds into blue lace
and the moon, into hints
of a woman’s skin
breathing white ardor.

My skin was the same
luminous, catching the frill
of indigo leaves that draped
us and the bedroom floor
in shadow. No candles lit,
only stars and a closed window
latching time,
        letting in
          the reflection of island trees.
