"Happy Christmas"  is a painting by Marie-France that touched me very deeply. It inspired me to write my poem, "Blithe Spirit" which strives to capture the hope and spiritual elation of The Yuletide Season.

The woman is a metaphorical figure who swirls to life out of a moment's radiance, an expelled breath of evening's light. For her gown, she borrows the table's linen, (symbolic of a festive garment, a banquet cloth), and lifts New Year's child in her arms. Leaning close to this precious being, she feels peace emerging through the hearts of those people who pray and respect humanity. And hopefully like her, when reading  this poem and viewing  this beautiful image, we, too, will sense morning's joy rekindled  through "candle flames" and our own, "pacifist ways".
